Many small business owners find Search Engine Optimisation to raise rankings on Google is somewhat of a mystery, a code to be cracked, if you will. The truth is there is no mystery, it is simple the case of a little knowledge goes a long way in increasing your company’s presence on the web.
By simply learning how the ranking system at Google works, you can make changes to climb the ladder to success with high Google rankings. Basically, there are two Google rankings, the PageRank and the Search Result Rank, both of which rank the content value of your website.
The Search Rank is your position on the search results page following a Google keyword query. Obviously the higher your site in the listing, the more likely your site will be chosen and clicked. PageRank essentially assigns your web page (and everyone else’s) a rank between 0 and 10. Zeros have no impact, while tens have the highest influence. All of this is assigned via a complex algorithm which analyses links and their quality.
With this knowledge in hand, how can you raise your search result rank and in turn your PageRank?
Step 1: Build your links. You want to have as many external links pointing to you site as possible. A great way to get started is reciprocal links – you place a company’s link on your page and they reciprocate with a link to your site on theirs. Another easy way to link build is by adding a link whenever you do a guest post or blog on someone else’s site.
Step 2: Optimise Keywords. You may have heard of keyword density and how important it is to your ranking, but did you know that you can use too many keywords? Using keywords effectively will improve your rank, while overusing keywords can damage your ranking.
Step 3: Elevate Anchor Text. In case you don’t know, anchor text is the highlighted hyperlinked text. It is the ideal place to optimise your keywords.
The code is cracked, you have the knowledge and now you can raise your Google Rankings with ease.
