How to Build Your Personal Brand

Today creating your own unique personal brand is just as important (and maybe more) as building your business brand. Your personal brand is a work in progress, ongoing, and intended to give your career the promotion needed to achieve your dreams.

Creating and building a personal brand can also be a great benefit to your company brand.

Building your personal brand begins with the definition of you and your distinctive abilities.

Determine what you have to offer that no one else has – think of yourself as your product – it could be a special ability, talent, resource or service.
Along with your unique offering, recognise your core values – individuality, integrity, diversity, service, dedication, honesty, teamwork, and excellence are just a few.

It is also important to identify your passion – it is the driving force behind all you do and what helps you achieve your goals. It is the intangible, yet relentless motivation for why you do what you do.

Finally you want to label your talents, what do others see in you that makes you unique? You want to understand how others see you, what kinds of impressions you make on them, their perceptions of your strengths and your values.

From these lists, you need to develop your statement. You shouldn’t include them all, but select the ones that mean the most to you and describe you best.

Once you have a statement of your brand – you want to create a tag line just like you would for your business. It is the one thing that you want everyone to know about you.

Now that you have discovered and developed your personal brand, you’ll want to promote your brand. For this portion of your brand building, you need a professional photo and a portfolio of your work.

To highlight your personal brand, use business cards, as well as your personal website, along with your LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook profiles and Networking.

Remember with your new personal brand the object is to get the word out about you!
