The Guide to Selling Online

Tuesday, October 21, 2014   By Mike Reddy

It seems today, everyone is trying their hand at selling online; and it’s no wonder, online sales are a benefit to many companies - expanding their once limited market and growing their bottom line.

Here are some beneficial tips to help you successfully sell your products or services online.

  • Create Or Update Your Business Website. Make it streamlined and user friendly. In your web pages, use effective keywords that draw customers to your site via search engines. These keywords can connect you to those who want and need your product or service. Choose keywords that potential customers would likely use when searching for you and your business. Google AdWords and similar applications can guide you when seeking out effective keywords that rank particularly well and drive customers to your site.

  • Use Social Media Marketing. Another excellent way to attract customers to your site is through social media – Facebook, Google+, Twitter and even LinkedIn offer venues by which you can market you goods and services.

  • Write Blogs. This can take the form of your own blog that you post on your website or via social media or it can take on new life as you create guest posts on complementary blogs and websites. Blogs allow you to advertise easily with built in hyperlinks leading directly to your website and increased sales. This could lead to what’s known as reciprocal content-sharing relationships – complementary businesses point links to your site while you reciprocate by pointing to theirs.

  • Purchase Online Advertising. Like traditional advertising, you’ll need to weigh the cost and effectiveness of your advertisements and determine if this is a viable option for your online business.

  • Captivate Your Potential Customers And Upsell. When visitors click your website, link or ad, the result should be a call to action. Invite them to subscribe to your email list by offering some type of incentive (it can be simple – the latest sales, blog updates, etc.). Create credibility for your product or service with testimonials from customers or press mentions. Finally – upsell; as customers browse or add products to their shopping carts offer supporting products alongside at special pricing or with added incentives.

Selling online is a great option for many businesses. It can increase your loyal customer base, your sales, your bottom line and grow your business.
